The legacy of the Chicago Bulls lives on today. They went down in history as one the greatest basketball teams ever. When the early 90’s hit that’s when the Chicago Bulls legacy really started. They went on to when six NBA championships. Do to the help of the owner, the vice president of the Bulls, and the determined players with a great coaching staff. That’s why their one of my greatest teams and why they went down in history.
With Jerry Reinsdorf at the owner position and Jerry Krause hired as Vice President/Basketball Operations the Bulls would then seek a coach that they could hold on to. Phil Jackson was named head coach after the replacement of Doug Collins on July 10, 1989. As a player Jackson had already spent 13 years in the NBA and 11 of those years with the New York Knicks. He was named Continental Basketball Association’s coach of the year in 1985; when his Albany Patroons of the NBA Development League went on to win the championship. Now the Bulls had Jackson to help them reach their goals along with some good solid players.
A player that you should be familiar with is Michal Jordan. If you are not familiar with Jordan playing for the Bulls then I’m sure you are with his sneakers. He had more than twenty pair of shoes named after him. Six pairs were worn during the Bull’s six championships by Jordan. He represented his team not only for winning championships but for winning individual awards like the slam dunk contest. He was selected to many all-star games; this man scored 65 points in one game. It’s safe to say he is one of the greatest of all time to play the game of basketball. He didn’t only score for the Bulls, but also was a terrific defensive player. For those championship seasons Jordan was on the All-Defensive First Team for the years of 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, and 98. Team work and defense was a major role played by Jordan and as a team captain, he stressed that a lot during practice and games.
Scottie Pippen was also apart of this legacy. He was signed by the Bulls on October 14, 1987 when Phil Jackson was assistant coach. Pippen helped lead this legacy in many different ways and was scattered across the NBA’s all-time leader board. He became fourth in steals (2, 307), ranked third in Bulls history with 5,726 rebounds and 774 blocked shots. A big role that Pippen played during building this legacy was playing team ball and doing all he could to stop the opposing team from scoring points. That’s why he was named one of the fifty greatest players of the 90’s.
The Bulls will always be remembered not only for what Michael did but how the team went on two three peats. They built this legacy by having phenomenal players, on greatness, and determination. They are now trying to build that greatness once again; with the phenomenal players being drafted out of college I wouldn’t be surprised if the bulls make themselves top contenders again. If those players don’t have determination then they won’t contribute to greatness nor reach the championship.
